What if ANC's elective conference is rigged? Stephen Grootes explores

Political commentator, EWN reporter and Midday Report host Stephen Grootes has explored the various scenarios possible at the ANC's elective conference in December.

ANC factions are apparently split between supporting presidential candidates Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Cyril Ramaphosa.

Here are a few of his thoughts:

1. Grootes predicts that if the ANC's official elective conference were to be cancelled by President Zuma, deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa would potentially host his own gathering.

2. If the conference was rigged, certain ANC members would want the party’s elective conference nullified in court.

3. If the outcomes of the elective conference were challenged in court, Parliament would have to be urgently convened in order to put an interim leader in place.

4. If Dlamini-Zuma wins, Ramaphosa may be shown the door.

He reflected on what may happen if votes were bought, or if ANC factions rejected the outcome of the conference.
