Grade 7 learner helps treat her dog's diabetic condition with rooibos

After hearing on the radio how rooibos tea helps people with diabetes, Zaria Rule, a Grade 7 pupil at Cornwall Hill College decided to put the tea to the test as part of a school project.

Zaria started giving rooibos tea to her dog, Jessie, who was diagnosed with diabetes in 2015. She started seeing a significant change after just one month.

Her parents helped with taking the dog to the vet to monitor its progress.

We did a test before giving her rooibos tea to see what her blood sugar level was and we did another test afterwards.

Before the rooibos tea, Jessie's energy levels had been low and she preferred to sleep rather than to play.

Zaria would like to work with animals when she grows up or become a psychologist.
