Motsoeneng may have to pay back SABC millions

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) interim board is driving attempts to claw back millions of rands paid to former COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng Motsoeneng who may also face criminal charges.

Duduetsang Makuse, national coordinator at the Save our SABC (SOS) Coalition says the SABC interim board is primarily trying to retrieve a R11.4 million bonus that paid for the MultiChoice deal that allowed them access to public archives.

This deal wasn't negotiated with the authorisation of the board.

Makuse explains that should the SABC succeed with getting back the R11.4 million then it will set a precedence to others who have considered partaking in such mismanagement. She says that taking the matter to court will be the first and an important step in gearing the public broadcaster to a healthier state.
