Magwaza was pushed to resign - Godi
Chairperson at Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Themba Godi, says former CEO of State Social Security Agency (Sassa), Thokozani Magwaza was expecting to be fired as he did not receive the necessary backing or support from his 'political principals'.
Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini announced on Monday that she and Magwaza had agreed to terminate his contract after a consultative process.
Magwaza says however, his contract was terminated.
He has apparently been the subject of death threats, in connection with his work to end Sassa's contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) and was due to testify against Dlamini, in a public inquiry into her role in the payment scandal.
He has always made it clear that he will never resign, if he is going to leave he must be pushed. The man only assumed his post in November last year, what then becomes the reason for resignation, if any?Themba Godi, Chairperson at Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts
My understanding is indeed as he has now confirmed, that his contract was terminated.Themba Godi, Chairperson at Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts
Godi says the country needs to avoid a situation where officials are under siege by criminals, making the country a 'banana republic'.
He says Magwaza needed Dlamini to support him.
For me, Magwaza needed to hear the Minister supporting him, saying continue, do your work we have your back.Themba Godi, Chairperson at Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts
