[LISTEN] Roger Federer's SA born mother says her son hates to lose

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to Lynette Federer, Roger Federer's mother.

Lynette Federer grew up in Johannesburg, and moved to Basel Switzerland after meeting Swiss-born husband Robert Federer. She later had two children, Roger and his older sister Diana.

Roger, 35, is the winner of his 8th Wimbledon title.

According to Lynette, who is also a former tennis player, she used to take her two children to the tennis court and that's where Roger developed his passion for playing tennis.

That's where it all evolved and today we are happy that he is enjoying tennis and loves the game.

At the age of 14, Roger left home to go and study at the Swiss Tennis Centre where he started playing professionally. His mother recalled how hard it was for him to leave home but he had made a decision to be a professional tennis player.

Lynette and her husband still visit South Africa every year, even after staying in Switzerland for more than 40 years. She says she still has a strong connection with her country of birth.
