Madiba warned South Africa about state capture in 1999 - Sipho Pityana

Over 100 civil society members met in Randburg, Johannesburg, to debate the future of the country and the impact of state capture under President Jacob Zuma.

The meeting is organised by the Ahmed Kathrada Foundations as well as Save SA.

Among the speakers was leader of Save SA Sipho Pityana as well as ANC member of Parliament Makhosi Khoza.

According to EWN reporter Masa Kekana, during his address, Sipho Pityana said that Nelson Mandela had warned the country about state capture in his last State of the Nation Address in 1999.

He says that this mission to recapture the state through Save SA threatens the lifestyle of not only Zuma and the Guptas family but of a lot of people.

Pityana called on law enforcement agencies to do their jobs saying that there's been a string of emails alleging corruption, linking a lot of ministers and government officials but there hasn't been a single arrest.

He also called for transparency in party political funding.

After Pityana spoke, Makhosi Khoza took to the podium and received a standing ovation, says Kekana.

She spoke about why she joined the ANC from a very young age and why now she feels she is faced with a dilemma.

She says the movement that she joined is not the movement she is part of today.

Khoza said that if she doesn't make it to the motion of no confidence vote on August 8, Zuma must know that he is haunting the country and should step down.

Khoza has been receiving death threats, following her outspoken statements on state capture and the upcoming motion of no confidence against President Zuma.
