Letshego Zulu conquers Mount Kilimanjaro in honour of her late husband

“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela

July 18 marks Nelson Mandela International Day which commemorates the lifetime of service Nelson Mandela gave to South Africa and the world. The day was launched on the stalwarts birthday, in 2009 via a unanimous decision by the UN General Assembly.

EWN reporter, Mia Lindeque spoke to Mandy Wiener on The Midday Report, about the #LegacyDialogue hosted at the historic Liliesleaf Farm in Rivonia.

The #LegacyDialogue was hosted on 702 and CapeTalk by Eusebius McKaiser and comprised of former finance minister and ANC member, Pravin Gordhan, former constitutional development minister Roelf Meyer, former ANC NEC member Febe Potgieter-Gqubule and news editor Ranjeni Munusamy.

Gordhan said that if today's African National Congress (ANC) wants to continue to stay in power, they would need to earn the respect of South Africans. Gordhan also said President Jacob should step down.

Mia Lindeque

Your purpose is actually transactional today, you can buy it for an account in Dubai or wherever, said Gordhan. The former finance minister also said for a country that produced a Madiba it should be ashamed of itself.

Former constitutional development minister Roelf Meyer, strongly criticised those that felt Mandela sold out the country.

Take a listen to the report in the clip below:
