WATCH: Bathabile Dlamini shuts down questions about Magwaza's exit

18 July 2017 3:44 PM

Min. Bathabile Dlamini told journalists to stop harassing her and refused to answer questions about Thokozani Magwaza on Tuesday.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has refused to answer questions about Thokozani Magwaza departure from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Dlamini told journalists to stop harassing her at a Mandela Day event on Tuesday afternoon.

The former Sassa CEO was removed from his position after accepting an exit package, the Social Development Department announced on Monday.

EWN's Gia Nicolaides says that Dlamini has begun to ignore questions put forward by media.

There is still no clarity on whether Magwaza voluntarily resigned or whether he was pressurised to leave by Dlamini, Nicolaides reports.

Meanwhile, Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) chair Themba Godi says Magwaza stood for what was right and was likely pushed out.

It's reported that Magwaza predicted his departure from Sassa long before his contract was terminated.

The former CEO was apparently the target of death threats, linked to work to end Sassa's contract with Cash Paymaster Services (CPS).

Sassa officials have also refused to comment on his sudden departure.
