Aguma's legal team almost barred media access to his hearing

Acting CEO of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) James Aguma is expected to appear before a disciplinary hearing after being suspended in May by the SABC's interim board.

Aguma is accused of providing false information under oath during the disciplinary proceedings brought against former chief operating officer at the public broadcaster Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

EWN Reporter, Masego Rahlaga says news agency, Times Media Group (TMG), on Monday submitted an application to have the media granted permission to sit through the disciplinary hearing.

Rahlaga says on Tuesday, both Eyewitness News and TMG were summoned into a boardroom and asked to make submissions of why they ought to be granted permission to sit on the hearing. She further explains that it was the Aguma's legal team that opposed their presence.

Much of today, was tactics by the defence to waste time.

The SABC's legal team tried to call its first witness but was halted by Aguma's legal team, saying the SABC didn't state that their investigations would continue in their two submitted documents.
