Proteas women exceeded expectations in World Cup

The English secured their place in the Women’s World Cup final, beating South Africa by a narrow two wickets on Tuesday.

The Proteas women won the toss and elected to bat first and it didn’t go according to plan as they managed just 218 runs, losing six wickets along the way.

Mandy Wiener spoke to sports writer at the Daily Maverick, Antionette Muller.

Muller says the team only have themselves to blame.

There were far too many extras and just little things that did not go their way, but I think overall considering that they have only really been professional for three to four years that is quite an effort.

Antionette Muller, sport writer at the Daily Maverick

Certainly heading to the World Cup they said minimum requirement for them is to reach the semis so that is job done, but it was absolutely heart wrenching to see them lose.
