On Wednesday, Eskom released its annual financial results and announced, among other things, that it has performed above average.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Shadow minister for public enterprises, Natasha Mazzone, begs to differ.

I think the fact that you're looking at R355.3 billion in debt security and borrowing which is a ten percent increase from 2016's R322.6 billion, shows you that the utility is in a bad state.

Natasha Mazzone, DA Shadow minister for public enterprises

I think today's presentation was nothing more than an attempt at smoke screen and mirrors in trying to fool South Africans into believing the utility is in a healthy state.

Mazzone believes Eskom does not have the will nor capacity to self rectify and says she is more determined more than ever to get to the bottom of its real financial state.
