Puerto Rican pop song 'Despacito' becomes most-streamed track in history

In just six months, Luis Fonsi's "Despacito" has become the most-streamed song of all time, with over 4.6 billion plays across global streaming platforms.

Let that sink in.

The song was released in January and the record includes streams from the “Despacito” remix featuring Justin Bieber, which was released in April

The Puerto Rican pop hit surpasses Justin Bieber’s 2015 track “Sorry,” which held the previous all-time streaming record with 4.38 billion plays.

According to TIME magazine, Fonsi is the first Latino artist to lead in Spotify streams.

The popular tune has been a major hit on YouTube, with well over 2.5 billion views.

The song has even been credited with giving Puerto Rico’s tourism economy a boost.

In case you're wondering, “Despacito,” means “slowly” in Spanish and speaks to the sensual nature of the seductive track.
