Lead SA mobilises thousands for 67 minutes that will have a lasting impact

Lead SA partnered with Food Forward SA and Pick n Pay this Mandela Day to encourage South Africans to help make a significant impact on nearly a quarter of a million vulnerable people.

Over the past few weeks, Lead SA called on citizens to donate food at collection points in Pick n Pay stores, and to volunteer their time on Mandela Day to join major food packing events in cities around the country.

According to Food Forward SA, over 100 tons of food was donated and 5 000 volunteers gave up their 67 minutes to pack the food which translates to 400 000 meals.

In Joburg and Cape Town, Lead SA joined the packing events, with Kfm presenters leading the charge at the Cape event.

This is a classic example of the Lead SA philosophy that every little bit of good, adds up. The impact of a small donation of food, or an hour of a person’s time has added up to feed thousands of people who would otherwise not know where their next meal was coming from.”

Karl Gostner, Lead SA

The campaign was also intended to highlight the critical and basic need for food that faces many South Africans every day. Through their network of 600 beneficiary organisations, Food Forward SA has managed to distribute 14 500 000 meals each year.
