After Letshego Zulu lost her husband, Gugu Zulu last year when he suffered complications from altitude sickness while on a Kilimanjaro trek, she promised him she would return to Uhuru Peak the following year to summit the mountain again.
Fast track to 18 July 2017 Zulu courageously honoured the promise she made to her husband when she completed the summit to Mount Kilimanjaro.
I made a promise to him as we were descending the mountain last year that we would be back. And we did go back, with him in spirit. I know he was walking right by side.— Letshego Zulu, Biokineticist and co-founder of PopUp Gym
Zulu explains that she grappled with precisely when she would trek that mountain again. She describes the summit as an incredibly difficult task to embark on.
Truth of the matter is there is hardly any oxygen there. Not once did I think I won't make it.— Letshego Zulu, Biokineticist and co-founder of PopUp Gym
Zulu says she goes into a lot of things with an open mind. She adds that she avoids preempting her feelings and cites planning ahead or dwelling on the past will hinder your efforts.
I'm one person who talks themselves through challenges, says Zulu. She hails her moment at the peak of the mount as victorious.
