How far is BATSA's investigation on allegations of bribery and corruption ?

About a year ago British American Tobacco South Africa (Batsa) confirmed it had ties with a forensic investigation firm accused of illegally spying on its competitors and colluding with law enforcement agencies to force competition out of the market.

What they were doing is gathering intel and setting up these competitors under false allegations to be raided and arrested by the authorities...

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

EWN reporter Barry Bateman who's been working on the story since it broke, says there were documents that were leaked to the media which supported these allegations.

The documents show how informers were paid and the links with various role players in the whole saga.

He says at the time Batsa's, Joseph Ralebepa, told him during an interview that the company takes the allegations seriously and was investigating them with the help of external advisors.

The matter seems to have died down but Bateman says he is working on finding out what is happening with regards to the investigations and whether criminal prosecutions were ensued.
