Sisulu: ANC members implicated in Gupta emails must face disciplinary action

ANC national executive committee (NEC) member Lindiwe Sisulu says there should be disciplinary processes put in place to address all party members implicated in the leaked Gupta emails.

She maintains that the party has the capacity to deal with the damning allegations made in the Gupta emails.

Call in the people who are named in those emails and ask them to explain themselves.

If we find that they are in anyway culpable, we would take them through disciplinary processes... Due process must be followed.

Sisulu, who is also Human Settlements Minister, formally accepted a nomination to stand for ANC president.

The presidential contender says she has not ruled out a 'political solution' for President Jacob Zuma, should she become his successor.

She explains that an amnesty deal for Zuma will not necessarily be up to politicians and may be determined in court of law.

My view is that the ANC would be more inclined to keep the unity of the party at all costs, but that has nothing to do with the legal matters.

Sisulu says she insisted on waiting until after the national policy conference before starting her campaign, as is the ANC tradition.

According to Sisulu, the leaked Gupta emails have brought the ruling party into deep disrepute.

She has denied that she was part of making Zuma's 738 charges go away after the ANC's watershed Polokwane conference in 2007.

We were not looking at a political solution then. There was no amnesty discussed after Polokwane. None.
