Eusebius Opinion: You are not exempted from the messy South African story

Still responding to the controversial 702 tweet, 702/CapeTalk presenter Eusebius Mackaiser took to social media to voice his frustration about the ordeal.

In the post, McKaiser starts off by discussing the fact that we all "have agency to shape the organisations we enter" saying that "many South African organisations have institutional cultures and norms that are deeply sexist, anti-poor, racist, elitist, unkind and inegalitarian in a myriad of ways".

In corporate South Africa, it means that even when blacks or women slowly get appointed to management or even boards, it does not necessarily mean business as usual in terms of organisational culture and business practices.

Mckaiser echoed that he is pleased that Primedia Broadcasting CEO Omar Essack came out and put himself in the firing line on Xolani Gwala's show and took responsibility for what happened around the controversial tweet.

However, that doesn't mean the company is off the hook, he says.

702 deserved the flak and critique we got and are getting for the tweet comparing black babies with puppies.

Eusebius McKaiser, 702 preseneter

He called on all South Africans to self-examine, in what he describes as "the messy South African story" from which no one is exempted.

You are not exempted from the messy South African story.

Our country is in deep trouble. It could yet be rescued from the looters and the trolls.
