Former Brazilian President Lula will appeal his 10 year prison sentence

Once the most popular president in the history of Brazil, Lula Da Silva was sentenced to nearly 10 years for corruption.

Professor Lyal White, Gibs Director of the Centre for Dynamic Markets, says that this is a major set back for Lula who wielded so much influence across the world.

White says that despite being found guilty, Lula denies the charges and plans to stand for election next year. He is appealing the courts decision.

If his appeal fails, he will be stripped of all political protection. He will go straight to jail to serve his 9 and a half year sentence.
