Double taxation looms for citizens working abroad

Are you a South African working outside the country?

Government is moving quickly on a law change that will affect South Africans working abroad.

James Whitaker, partner and director of Tax Services at Pricewaterhouse Coopers says Treasury might be putting this legislation in place to catch those who are avoiding to pay tax all together.

But he sees it as a case of "taking a very large slash hammer to crack a very small nut".

People might decide, oh well.. is not worth all the time I spend working overseas and just stay in the country
