Is Zuma pulling a Putin on South Africa?

The South African Communist Party (SACP) a few weeks ago warned that President Jacob Zuma was copying Russian President Vladimir Putin in the way he runs South Africa.

Former National Director at the SA Institute for International Affairs, Dr Sara Pienaar, looks at some of the similarities in the way Putin and Zuma run their countries.

She says the SACP pointed out that a lot of Zuma's colleagues are having meetings with their counterparts in Russia.

There is a lovely picture in one of our papers of Zuma and Putin seated next to each other at the G20 in Hamburg and they certainly looked very comfortable together.

Under the Russian constitution, Putin can serve for another 6 years if he is elected as we expect him to be in March 2018 when presidential elections takes place.
