The inquest into anti-apartheid [activist Ahmed Timol death ](http://Inquest into death of apartheid activist Ahmed Timol begins)continued in Pretoria today. The court is ruling on whether Timol died at the hands of security branch police in 1971. The police claimed he committed suicide.

The conclusion of Holland is that there are numerous injuries that Timol sustained that are not consistent with a fall from a height. She concluded that several of the abrasions an bruises were sustained prior to his death from falling.

Holland's testimony suggested that Timol was assaulted by the police while he was in custody. Bateman says the analysis of a particular injury on the top of Timol's head may have been caused by a hard blunt blow to the head.

The possibility here is that Timol was severely assaulted, hit on the head to the point that he was unconscious and then picked up and was actually thrown out of the window.

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

Yesterday, the court heard evidence of a cover-up which Bateman says related to how the police reacted when they found Timol.
