DA will call for early election if Zuma loses motion of no confidence

There are growing calls for an early election should President Jacob Zuma loses the vote of no confidence against him. The motion of no confidence vote is expected to take place in August.

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane says National Assembly Speaker, Baleka Mbete is stalling by not giving opposition parties feedback on her decision whether the ballot will be secret or not.

He says should the vote go the opposition's way, the DA would call for an interim government that will ensure South African's go to the polls soon.

The sooner South Africans can elect a government that could formulate a plan, give policy certainty so we ensure in fact that South Africa can get itself out of a recession, the better.

Mmusi Maimane, DA leader

Maimane says the African National Congress (ANC) is deeply divided and dead as a brand.

He says the ruling party's decision to charge ANC MP, Dr Makhosi Khoza for her criticism of the party displays their patronage network and failure to put the country ahead of the party.
