Britain will ban new petrol and diesel cars from 2040

In an anti-pollution move, Britain is to ban all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.

Alexander Parker, a journalist at 24.com says the initiative wants to ban cars that run solely on internal combustion. He adds that the industry or infrastructure could cope with a complete ban on all internal combustion.

I think that we will still see hybrid cars, we'll still see petrol stations in the UK after 2040 but it is the start of a process that will eventually lead to possible complete electrification in terms of personal mobility.

Alexander Parker, Journalist at 24.com

Parker says there are about three hundred electric cars on South African roads at the moment and adds that they will increase in the approaching future.
