MiWay won’t yet charge the person responsible for sending out a racist email in the company’s name.
The company knows the identity of the wrongdoer, after an independent forensic team conducted an investigation.
The offender is a customer disgruntled by the rejection of a claim that didn’t comply with the conditions of her/his policy.
The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed MiWay CEO Rene Otto.
Otto discussed the following five things he learned from the fake email debacle:
-
Social media thrives on sensation and emotion
-
Social media is basically irrational and a fertile ground for confirmation bias
-
Social media is very dangerous, especially in the current political climate
-
Transparency, speed and availability are strong defences to fight the fires
- Make sure you build a strong brand and have loyal staff - it helps to weather the storm
