[LISTEN] Vusi Pikoli talks police complaints and Scorpions 2011 Gupta probe

Kieno Kammies listed complaints from callers, chief among those are that police do not respond accordingly to call for help. Western Cape police ombudsman and former National Directorate of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) head, Adv Vusi Pikoli, breaks down the lists of complaints he's received.

In so far as complaints of poor response goes, that's fourth on the list. At number one is poor investigation, 193 complaints, unacceptable police behaviour, 246, poor investigation, 193, and poor response, 101. While I have no powers to enforce, we can make recommendations on how to deal with these problems and follow-up.

Kieno Kammies asked Pikoli about the Gupta's alleged state capture dating back to 2001 and assertions in The Times newspaper that this could have been stopped 12 years ago if this case was prosecuted when he was appointed to the NPA (National Prosecutions Authority) in 2005.

Kieno Kammies recounted a R120 million tax fraud case linked to the Gupta's Sahara Computers and it's front company being investigated by the Scorpions for exchange control contraventions, fraudulent VAT claims and custom fraud.

I have no immediate recollection of that particular matter... normally when the NPA refuse to prosecute, it's due to insufficient evidence.
