Outa compiling court bid to propel Hawks' Prasa corruption probe

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) says it plans to file court papers this week in a bid to compel the Hawks to investigate irregular tenders at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa).

Outa claims that the crime investigation unit has been dragging its feet on its investigative duties.

The lobby group's COO Ben Theron explains that Outa's court application is separate to similar legal action take by the current Prasa board.

Allegations of corrupt dealings at the rail agency have implicated the ANC, former Prasa CEO Lucky Montana, locomotives supplier Swifambo Rail Leasing and other contractors.

We will be applying and bring a case to court so that the Hawks must do their work.

The Hawks are dragging their feet on the Swifambo matter. They've refused to cooperate.

Theron says that if the Hawks or NPA do not do their work, Outa will consider a private prosecution case.

At the same time, Outa has laid charges of fraud, extortion, corruption and high treason against the Director General of Public Enterprises Mogokare Richard Seleke.
