"There's a concerted effort to alienate coloured educators"
A group representing coloured teachers in Eldorado Park, in Southern Johannesburg, is calling for a national shutdown after a black principal was appointed to run the Klipspruit West Secondary School in what is regarded as a predominantly coloured area.
Anthony Williams, executive member of Patriots for Equality, says the misrepresentation that Eldorado Park is a racist community because of their opposition to a black principal is inaccurate.
We cannot accept that someone is imposed on the community in the manner the department has done.Anthony Williams, executive member, Patriots for Equality
Williams says they are opposing flawed processes that were followed in appointing the said principal.
The Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, has unilaterally disbanded the school governing body without due process, explains Williams.
Williams goes on say that The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) is imposing black African teachers on the community unfairly. He says there is a concerted effort to alienate coloured educators from holding higher ranked positions.
Gauteng MEC of education, Panyaza Lesufi says he feels let down and disappointed with the remarks made by Williams.
I've got a memorandum that clearly stipulates that the opposition is based on colour. I've got a memorandum and posters that are all over, that this is a coloured area and must be led by a coloured person.Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education MEC
Lesufi says that he sat and met with various stakeholders who unanimously confirmed that the SGB fueled the matter at hand.
