Scaramucci was technically fired before his job even started - US analyst

John Kelly, who was sworn in as White House Chief of Staff on Monday, reportedly asked the President to remove Anthony Scaramucci as communications director, according to The New York Times.

US President Donald Trump hired Scaramucci to replace Mike Dubke, who resigned in May after a fallout over Russia-related scandals.

Five days after his appointment Anthony Scaramucci called reporter Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker to air his frustrations about press leaks, threatening to fire the entire White House communications staff.

In a statement, the White House said: "Mr Scaramucci felt it was best to give Chief of Staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best."

US foreign policy expert Brooks Spector gives his take on the matter.

He managed to do all the damage talking on the record to Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker Magazine who then beautifully copied it down and ran the story.

Not surprisingly when the president decided that he really needed an adult in the room as his chief of staff, Kelly must have made the decision you get rid of Scaramucci or I am not joining you and he was gone.

A little technical correction - he actually wasn't supposed to start officially on the pay role until the 16th of August, which leaves him with the unique distinction of having been fired actually 15 days before work.
