Tshwane executive mayor Solly Msimanga says the municipality has inherited a great deal of debt and suspicious tenders granted by the previous administration.
One of the things we inherited were contracts that were entered into illegally or wrongfully.— Solly Msimanga, Executive Tshwane Mayor
Msimanga announced soon after taking office last year that he would subject several contracts to thorough audits.
He says the City has been locked in a smart meter contract amid a lengthy court battle to have it nullified.
According to Msimanga, this does not begin to cover the rot from the previous administration.
He says the City of Tshwane was in R2 billion deficit when he came into power.
Msimanga spoke about the progress made in the municipality over the past year and the City's service delivery priorities and challenges.
