Stephen's infamous Gupta interview got a brief mention in BBC doccie

In February last year EWN reporter Stephen Grootes signed a non-disclosure agreement to interview Ajay Gupta, and had no control of the cameras and the recording.

The organisers of the interview also kept Groote's tape recorder containing the interview which he has failed to get back.

He chats to Xolani Gwala following BBC Radio 4's audio documentary which makes brief mention of the interview.

You have this situation where now I can finally talk about it, of course, all I have left is the 20 minutes that appeared on Youtube and my memory of it and my machine which they have still got.

Stephen Grootes, 702 anchor and Eyewitness News reporter

Grootes still doesn't know why the PR company Bell Pottinger organised this interview, but shares how he was offered a sum of money after he went against a non-disclosure agreement and spoke out about a 20-minute clip of the interview that was leaked on Youtube.

I got a phone call which I didn't take....about three months afterwards I got an email saying we did send the machine back, I am sorry that it got lost in the post, I will happily pay out of my own account for the machine. I said thank you but no. We weren't going to take money from the Gupta family, for anything.
