DA encouraged by the new SAA CEO appointment

South African Airways (SAA) may not be able to pay its staff as fear mounts that it has run out of cash and is effectively bankrupt.

On Thursday, National Treasury confirmed the appointment of Vodacom executive, Vuyani Jarana as SAA CEO.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) shadow deputy finance, Alf Lees says he is heartened by the appointment of Jarana because of impressive record at Vodacom.

We are encouraged by his appointment.

Lees says it is all very well appointing someone with an impressive record but then to place obstacles in their way so that they cannot perform to their best ability is a concern.

He says the appointment is a step in the right direction but will not make the airlines current problems go away.

Lees goes on to say that an aviation expert is needed on the board.
