First National Bank has confirmed that it has various measures of protection in ensuring that the customers Personal Identification Number (PIN) does not fall in the hands of inappropriate people.
This follows complaints from customers who's bank cards are due for renewal. When receiving their new bank cards, these customers say that their PIN, which they've been using for several years, is printed on the envelope that accompanies the card.
They wanted to find out how the bank gets to know their PINs and how secure are their savings if the bank knows the PIN.
CEO of FNB Value Banking Solutions, Ryan Prozesky says the process is secure and no one at FNB gets to see the customers PINs.

Those PIN numbers are in no way humanly viewable by any person within the card production processes. The PINs are only processed and stored under advanced cartography in what we call Hardware Security Modules.— Ryan Prozesky, CEO of FNB Value Banking Solutions
According Prozesky, the bank put this process in place to avoid a high number of blocked cards when the renewals take place.
Previously the bank would issue a new card with a new PIN, but customers (because of habit), punch in their old pin which results in their bank card being blocked.
