"We state categorically that Moyane never met with any member of Gupta family"

South African Revenue Services (SARS) confirms that its chief financial officer Matsobane Matlwa has resigned following claims that he had been served with a letter of suspension.

SARS commissioner Tom Moyane has also denied reports that he met with members of the Gupta family in Dubai in December 2015.

TimesLive reported on Thursday that Moyane was in Dubai at the same time as Rajesh Gupta, Atul Gupta, Ajay Gupta as well as Jackob Zuma's son, Duduzane Zuma.

The Times reports that the two sons of Free State premier Ace Magashule and Eskom’s now suspended chief financial officer Anoj Singh were also there.

Sars spokesperson, Luther Lebelo says Sars was aware that Matlwa was going to resign as he indicated his inclination to resign since as far back as last year.

He says although he didn't go deeper into his reasons for resigning, he mentioned that he is pursuing greener pastures.

Lebelo rubbished reports that Matlwa was served with a letter of suspension, saying it is all lies.

I also read in the papers that he (Matlwa) was out-marched from Sars offices by Moyane's body guards, those are all lies.

Lebelo also denied that Moyane was in Dubai and met with the Guptas in December 2015. He says at the time Moyane was on his way to Portugal to spend Christmas with his family there.

We want to state this categorically that Commissioner Moyane wants to tell South Africans that he has never met any member of the Gupta family either in his private or professional capacity

Luther Lebelo, Sars spokesperson

We view all these allegations as malicious and reckless trying to taint Mr Moyane and Sars as an institution, and we are calling the media to please stick to the facts and stop making allegations that confuses our people.
