DA's progress in new metros demonstrates good governance ahead of 2019 - analyst

It has been one year since the Democratic Alliance (DA) took control of three key metros; Johannesburg, Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay.

Political analyst Gareth van Onselen says the has done well in the limited time that it has been in governance.

He explains that there are three main priorities for parties, once they take over a municipality:

  • stabilise the administration
  • clean out corruption and maladministration that preceded
  • get municipal finances in order

Van Onselen says the opposition party has been able to achieve the three objectives so far.

The DA is in the process of being quite far down that track.
