The African National Congress (ANC) says it is 'disappointed' by what it says are allegations of assault lodged against Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana.
The police ministry confirmed a case of assault was opened by Mandisa Duma at the weekend, following Sunday morning's incident at the Johannesburg north nightclub.
A sound clip, purporting to be of the deputy minister admitting the incident, has gone viral on social media.

A man claiming to have seen Manana attacking Duma says when he tried to intervene, the deputy minister ignored him and continued to assault the woman.

The conflict apparently moved to the parking lot, where more women were allegedly assaulted.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says they have been unable to get hold of Manana, but intend to meet with him soon as it is a serious offence.
We are calling on law enforcement agencies, regardless of circumstances and the identity of the perpetrator or victim, to act without fear or favour.— Zizi Kodwa, ANC spokesperson
