Will MPs do the right thing? - Callers respond

While protesters prepare to take to the streets of the Cape Town City Centre on Tuesday - both in support of and against Jacob Zuma - predictions over the outcome of a motion of no confidence in the President have dominated discussions.

This marks the opposition’s 8th bid to unseat the President, but this time it will be different as Members of Parliament (MPs) will vote through a secret ballot.

African National Congress MP Makhosi Khoza has stressed the importance of the vote, saying it will be a critical step in “taking back our democracy.”

With a secret ballot in place, 702's Eusebius McKaiser asks if MPs will make the right decision.

Here is what listeners had to say...

He [Zuma] is very sure about his numbers, that is why the speaker delayed which method will be used, because there was communication between the President and the speaker.

I think the whole nation might be in for a shock since we have got 400 people to cast a vote. Zuma has been head of intelligence of the ANC he knows who to brain wash MPs in parliament.

Caller

Lucky predicts something unusual may happen.

Today is the 8th of the 8th month, Zuma is facing the 8th vote of no confidence, last night the moon partially eclipsed. Zuma as a president happens to address the January 8th statement, so I do not know what the 8 has to do with today but these four 8's for me might link up to something unexpected.

Leader of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Bantu Holomisa hopes MPs will take into consideration concerns expressed by the public.

At least this time around this vote of no confidence is different from the one's we have been having, you have civil society to say enough is enough I hope they will take into consideration the views of the population this time.

Bantu Holomisa, leader of the UDM
