Jackson Mthembu: I've never said I'd vote with opposition to remove my president

The African National Congress (ANC) will be voting against "it's detractors" in the motion of no confidence because it cannot vote with the opposition to remove its own government and President, says the Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu.

Members of parliament will be voting in the motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday.

Our electoral system is a party base political system, therefore we cannot come to parliament as members of parliament of the ANC vote in pursuit of a motion that comes from our detractors.

Jackson Mthembu, Chief Whip, ANC

Asked if South Africa would be a better country if Jacob Zuma wasn't President, Mthembu says the country would need to come up with a mechanism either through the ANC or a judicial of inquiry to dig deeper into the country's problems, including state capture.

The national grievance today is state capture. You therefore need to dig deeper into the national grievance so that on the basis of the outcome of a credible investigation, you can then say, after we better off with this person?

Jackson Mthembu, Chief Whip, ANC

Mthembu goes on to say that former public protector, Thuli Madonsela said there should be a judicial commission of inquiry into the state capture report because her own findings were not conclusive. We are fully supportive of that adds Mthembu.

I've never said I'd vote with opposition to remove my President.
