Zuma survives no confidence motion

President Jacob Zuma has survived another no confidence vote in Parliament.

Tuesday marks the opposition’s eighth attempt to unseat the President.

Zuma's controversial Cabinet reshuffle in March and the damning allegations emerging from the leaked Gupta emails have contributed to growing calls for his resignation.

MPs used their allocated time in Parliament to have their say and the National Assembly Chamber then voted by secret ballot.

The House was temporarily suspended and four voting booths were placed in chamber for MPs to cast their secret votes.

National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete says legal opinion will be sought on the quorum in Parliament, given the number of vacancies in the benches.

Mbete announced on Monday that she would grant the highly contested hidden vote.
