JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula says the arrest of Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana is imminent and could even happen on Tuesday.
Manana has admitted to assaulting Mandisa Duma at a night club in Fourways on Sunday.
The woman opened a case of assault against the deputy minister.
Mbalula has urged South Africans to be patient as police investigate.
“The fact of the matter is that there’s a whole process we needed to follow from the point of view of the victim and to look at the circumstances around that particular matter. An arrest is imminent, either today or any other time.”
In the last few minutes, Manana issued another apology, this time to the Cubana night club, its management and staff.
In it, he says he apologises “unreservedly for the unfortunate actions that involved him and his friends.”
‘IF HE’S GUILTY HE WILL BE PUNISHED’
Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane has joined the chorus of voices condemning the actions of Manana, saying that if he’s guilty, he will be punished.
Manana has since apologised, saying that while he was extremely provoked it was wrong to act in the manner that he did.
Nkosi-Malobane says that Manana’s case will not be treated any differently to that of any other abuser.
Nkosi-Malobane says that it’s not her place to decide whether Manana should stay in his position.
