The names on these lists have been compiled by opposition says Jackson Mthembu

President Jacob Zuma defeated the motion of no confidence set against him.

African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu thanks the members of the ruling party for adhering and defending the party's mandate by not voting with opposition in the motion of no confidence to remove the president of the country and ANC.

He says they have defeated the Democratic Alliance (DA) led motion.

We are quite satisfied that we did not become party to what would have been a suicidal move to the organisation.

Jackson Mthembu, Chief Whip, ANC

Mthembu says it is concerning that there are several ANC members of parliament who voted against Zuma in the motion but adds that they will not go on a witch hunt against those members.

Mthembu goes on to dismiss the authenticity of a list with names of ANC members who allegedly voted with the opposition the motion that has since gone viral on social media. He says the lists existed even prior to Tuesdays vote.

The names on these lists have been compiled by the opposition.

The ANC itself has said it needs to self correct on a number of matters confronting the movement and the government, including that of state capture.

He goes on to say that removing Zuma would have led to a collapse of his executive, therefore collapsing the ANC led government would have been the consequences, resulting in an early election campaign by opposition parties.
