[OPINION] Grootes: Zuma weaker after no confidence vote

President Jacob Zuma narrowly survived a motion of no confidence earlier this week with 177 Members of Parliament voting in favour of the motion, while 198 voted against and nine abstained.

Stand-in breakfast host Stephen Grootes takes a look at the debate around whether or not this has weakened the president's standing in the African National Congress and as head of state.

Weighing the numbers, Grootes believes Zuma is in fact weaker.

I am more on the side that will tell you Zuma is weaker.

Stephen Grootes, Midday Report host & EWN reporter

Everyone expected Zuma to survive and you expected that only four or five MPs would vote against him. Instead, the number must have been around 35 ANC MPs who voted against him.

Stephen Grootes, Midday Report host & EWN reporter

You might have noticed that during the debate no one defended Zuma, they only defended the ANC and attacked the opposition.
