No intention to handle Manana's case in favourable manner - police ministry

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula says that deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana will not be treated with kid gloves as he faces assault charges.

Mbalula briefed the media on the assault case against Manana on Thursday afternoon, after his appearance at the Randburg Magistrates Court.

The police ministry's Vuyo Mhaga says they are satisfied with how proceedings have unfolded so far and will continue to ensure that Manana is not treated favourably.

At no point is there intention to handle this case in a favourable manner for Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana.

We need to make sure that police execute their work, irrespective of who is affected in society.

Mhaga advises that there are many ways to bring an individual to court, within the boundaries of the law.

He says that the police ministry will use this matter as a case study going forward.
