ALERT: Flooding expected in Cape Town

The South African Weather Services has issued a warning for severe weather conditions in Cape Town.

The city's Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Mandy Thomas said the worst of the bad weather may have taken place overnight but rainfall is still expected to continue for the rest of Friday.

She says low-lying areas remain a particular concern for disaster officials.

Thomas says there were no reports of damage to infrastructure or injuries due to gale force winds.

Authorities will continue to remain on high alert, particularly at informal settlements.

To report any weather-related emergencies to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre, dial (021) 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
