Recently freed al-Qaeda Mali hostage Stephen McGown is finally a free man after six years.

He appeared publically for the first time since his release on Thursday.

McGown said he was experiencing information overload and was informed by family that his mother had passed away.

At the media briefing, he was also informed by journalists that music stars George Michael and David Bowie had also died.
