Deputy Minister in the Presidency Buti Manamela will report back on the work of the Presidential Task Team on Creative Industries at the Musicians Indaba in Soweto on Friday.
The Indaba will be the first consultation within the creative sector and is set to provide a platform for performing artists in the music sector to engage with the state on issues affecting them.
Task team chair Manamela says issues around the Copyrights Amendment Bill and Performance Amendment Bill will be addressed, as well as the payment of royalties.
I must emphasise that this is just an engagement with musicians. We will still have engagements with actors, writers, crafters....— Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Presidential task team on creative industries
Concerns have previously been raised on copyright issues related to the bill.
Manamela says musicians will be encouraged to engage members of Parliament.
We are aware of those concerns and we are hoping that members of Parliament will take into consideration the views and interests of musicians... I encourage all musicians to go and make submissions before the parliamentary portfolio committee.— Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister in the Presidency and Chairperson of the Presidential task team on creative industries
