SACP: Shifting focus to ANC MPs who voted against Zuma 'irresponsible'

The South African Communist Party (SACP) says it would be irresponsible for the ruling party preoccupy itself with weeding out MPs who voted in support of a motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.

SACP's Mhlekwa Nxumalo says ANC first priority needs to be addressing existing issues including factionalism, state capture, corruption and gate-keeping.

The ANC must be able to face its current problems.

Shifting focus to those MPs is running away from real problem faced by the movement.

Nxumalo says the ANC needs to meet with its alliance partners to discuss its challenges, particularly allegations made in the leaked Gupta emails, and the way forward.

If the ANC fails to convene an Alliance Political Council, the SACP says it will take the matter into its own hands.

If the ANC does not convene the Alliance Political Council, we must convene it ourselves and call all other alliance components to have a collective discussion - even of the ANC is not there - and take firm decisions.

We cannot wait forever for the ANC.... There will be an important meeting taking place in the next seven days or so.
