Voting process 'irregular' at KZN ANC 2015 elective conference, court hears

Court proceedings are underway to determine whether the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) ANC's provincial leadership has been legitimately elected into power.

Several branches have taken the provincial ANC leadership to court, calling for it to be dissolved and their resolutions nullified.

The High Court in Pietermaritzburg has heard how the ANC national executive committee (NEC) failed to address the grievances of a disgruntled group of KZN regions prior to its 2015 provincial elective conference.

Applicants have brought membership fraud allegations.

They say they weren't given the opportunity to appeal the audit of the branches, and yet there was still a rush to convene the provincial elective conference.

Branches have argued that the voting process at the 2015 provincial elective conference was irregular, reports EWN's Ziyanda Ngcobo.

They claim that failed internal processes are the reason why their court application took so long.

The outcomes of the court case could directly impact on the strength of the KZN delegation ahead of the ANC's national elective conference in December.
