KZN ANC court action more than just factional face-off, says analyst
ANC branches have argued that President Jacob Zuma and the ANC national executive committee (NEC) failed to address their grievances ahead of KwaZulu-Natal's 2015 provincial elective conference.
It was during that conference where former KZN ANC chair Senzo Mchunu was ousted.
Several branches have taken the provincial leadership to court, calling for it to be dissolved and their resolutions nullified.
Political analyst Lukhona Mnguni says that the court action does not only boil down to factional battles between Mchunu loyalists and the incumbent Sihle Zikalala's supporters.
He explains that the court battle is also about the legitimacy of administrative process before, after and during ANC elective conferences.
There could be genuine grievances.Lukhona Mnguni, political analyst
When the ANC gets divided along factional lines, people assume allegiance , manipulate processes and sideline people. They sort of engineer the election outcome.Lukhona Mnguni, political analyst
While we must appreciate the factions, we must check what are the alleged irregularities and what is the evidence.Lukhona Mnguni, political analyst
Mguni says there needs to be evidence of voting dependencies, in order to prove allegations of membership fraud.
He explains that the NEC has oversight over provincial conferences and are meant to address concerns raise by ANC branches.
