Grace Mugabe invokes diplomatic immunity as Zim-SA relations get tense

The SA Police Service has confirmed Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe has invoked diplomatic immunity cover.

Grace is still in South Africa and her husband, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, is [due to land](http://Bob Mugabe flying in, could sort out his wife) in the country on Wednesday afternoon.

The first lady has been implicated in assault accusations and failed to hand herself over to police on Tuesday.

It’s understood that Robert Mugabe had to change his travelling plans to deal with the matter involving the first lady.

She is accused of assaulting Gabriella Engels at a Sandton hotel on Sunday after finding her in the hotel room with her sons.

UJ Professor David Moore says diplomatic immunity can be invoked by diplomats when needed.

South Africa has been so timid to challenge Zimbabwe... There's a very tension-ridden relationship and this could be the last straw.
