Khoza sacking shows Zuma camp on warpath – analyst

The sacking of outspoken African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) Makhosi Khoza is essentially the implosion of the party’s caucus in the National Assembly, political analyst Karima Brown says.

The analyst says the choice of words by ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu in his statement is particularly interesting.

Khoza, who has publicly spoken out against President Jacob Zuma and corruption, has been fired from her post as Public Service & Administration committee chair on orders from Luthuli House.

Mthembu made it clear the directive was from the ANC’s head office, with secretary general Gwede Mantashe saying he didn’t act alone but consulted with the party.

He [Mthembu] is trying to make it clear that she’s not being axed because of the vote, she’s being axed because of relations between herself and her committee members.

Karima Brown, Political analyst

What you’re seeing essentially is the internal combustion or the implosion of the African National Congress within Parliament. The structure is being severely contested.

Karima Brown, Political analyst

Brown says the question now is if other committee chairs, many which have great track record, are in threat and in the firing line.

This is not going to be over for a long time. Battle lines have completely been drawn and the Zuma action is on the warpath.
